Vernissage

Wrenches, power drills, old phones, spare tires, various nuts and bolts, old books, rugs, jewelry, random cords and plugs, forks, currency of various nations, swords, clocks and art...These are just some of the selection presented at the popular Armenian flea market called Vernissage.

Vernissage is different from other flea markets in that it is very organized and very quiet. There is no active hustle and bustle or yelling back and forth. I  don't even think there is any bargaining. It is a very civilized flea market. Not something you see every day.

All of the merchants I dealt with were very proud of their work and eager to please. I had a great conversation with one of the merchants, from whom I bought a painting. His sister is the artist and he spoke of her with great pride. He was so happy to see Armenian kids from the diaspora back working in Armenia, trying to be useful in some way.

All in all Vernissage is a great way to spend a Sunday in Yerevan.
