Just picture it....A round fried ball of dough filled with vanilla or chocolate cream and covered in powdered sugar...Perfection. Ponchik!
Ponchiks are fun little things. Another one of the things one must experience while in Armenia- a trip to the ponchikanots(It's something you never forget. Grand Candy ponchikanots to be exact. Grand Candy is like the Hersheys of Armenia. There are chain locations all over the country but not every one is a ponchikanots, some are just candy shops. The ponchikanots' are special, very special. You walk in to something reminiscent of Disneyland and it goes uphill from there.
For someone who doesn't particularly enjoy fried foods, this ponchik was the best. As a Yerevantsi would say: "verchna." It isn't too greasy, and the cream inside is the most important part, it isn't thick and heavy. It's jelly and perfect. I left the ponchikanots one very happy camper...
(Images from top: the exterior of Grand Candy, the inside of the first floor candy shop-like a kid in a candy store haha, the counter where you get the good stuff, the ponchik in all its glory, patiently waiting for our ponchiks, Natasha biting into it)!
